A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket booster, known as B1058, tipped over and broke apart on a droneship in the Atlantic Ocean due to high winds. The booster had completed its 19th mission by launching 23 Starlink satellites. B1058 was notable for being the first Falcon 9 booster to transport astronauts to the International Space Station. SpaceX plans to salvage the engines and inspect the remaining hardware. The incident does not diminish the value of the booster, according to SpaceX.

SpaceX's Starship rocket crashed into the Indian Ocean after the company lost control of the rocket nearly 30 minutes into its ninth test flight. The two-stage spacecraft, consisting of the Starship vessel mounted atop a SpaceX Super Heavy rocket booster, blasted off from Starbase launch site in Texas. This failure follows two consecutive Starship test flights earlier in 2025.

SpaceX's ninth Starship test saw mixed outcomes, with the spacecraft reaching orbit but losing control during re-entry, ending in the Indian Ocean. This test marked the first use of a flight-proven Super Heavy booster. Despite successes in separation and ascent, a planned cargo hatch deployment failed and the spacecraft spiraled out of control later. Following prior explosions, the FAA expanded safety zones, and SpaceX implemented hardware improvements to enhance reliability.

SpaceXโs Starship successfully completed its third flight test, reaching orbital velocity after a hot-stage separation with the booster rocket. However, the mission ended in failure as the vehicle was lost during re-entry, preventing the scheduled splashdown in the Indian Ocean. This marks the latest setback for Starship, following two unsuccessful attempts in 2020. SpaceX has concluded its live broadcast, and further updates on the mission will be provided as they become available.

SpaceX has successfully used mechanical "chopsticks" to grab and secure the booster of its Starship rocket mid-air after separation. This innovative approach increases reusability, reduces costs, and improves turnaround time. It also advances missions to the Moon and Mars, and has the potential to revolutionize interplanetary travel. The method involves attaching the chopstick-like arms, known as Mechazilla, to SpaceX's launch tower. The arms align vertically, controlled by precision motors and actuators, to secure the booster as it returns to the launch site. This eliminates the need for ocean landings and reduces refurbishment time. The achievement enhances SpaceX's position in the space industry and strengthens its credibility for ambitious projects.

Rocket Lab successfully launched and recovered its Electron rocket, marking its first launch of the year. The rocket carried four Space Situational Awareness (SSA) satellites for NorthStar, deploying them into a circular Earth orbit. The Electron's first stage was also recovered using a parachute and splashed down in the Pacific Ocean. Rocket Lab plans to analyze and reuse the booster for future launches as it continues to experiment with reusability. The company aims to increase its competitiveness with industry rival SpaceX.

SpaceX has achieved notable success with its Falcon 9 rocket, setting records in booster reusability, with one booster launching 25 times. The company's rapid launch cadence is highlighted by short turnaround times between launches. Besides reusing boosters, SpaceX also reuses payload fairings, and manufactures new upper stages for each launch. SpaceX aims to push the boundaries further with its Starship, designed for full reusability, supporting its Mars ambitions and maintaining competitive production rates.

SpaceX's Starship, the largest and most powerful rocket ever built, experienced a setback during its latest test flight. The rocket successfully separated from the booster and continued on its path over the Gulf of Mexico. However, contact was lost as it approached the Indian Ocean for a planned splashdown. Despite the loss, SpaceX celebrated the progress made during the test flight and acknowledged the significant advancements they have achieved. NASA is closely following SpaceX's developments as they are crucial for the agency's plans to send astronauts to the moon in the near future.

US regulators have given clearance for SpaceX to resume launching its Falcon 9 rocket, following an investigation into a recent mishap during a booster landing. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had grounded the rocket after the booster tipped over and exploded while attempting to land on a droneship. The investigation remains open, but the FAA said the rocket can return to flight operations as long as all other license requirements are met. The reusability of the rocket system is crucial for SpaceX, which has successfully landed hundreds of boosters over the last three years.
