Huawei's new Mate 70 phone chip shows no major redesign: report

The latest Huawei Mate 70 smartphone has been found to have a chip that offers only incremental improvements compared to its predecessor, contrary to expectations of a more advanced chip. The chip, called Kirin 9020, was manufactured by Chinese chip foundry Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC), using a 7nm process rather than the anticipated 5nm process. TechInsights suggests that Huawei may be struggling to make significant breakthroughs in chip manufacturing. However, the Kirin 9020 chip does feature enhancements in performance and efficiency, according to the consultancy's teardown analysis. Sales predictions for the Mate 70 are expected to be weaker than its predecessor.
