How long you got? Danish AI algorithm aims to predict life, and death

Researchers in Denmark are using artificial intelligence and data from millions of people to predict various life events. The life2vec project aims to raise awareness about AI's capabilities and risks by analyzing patterns and relationships to anticipate health or social outcomes. The algorithm considers variables like birth, education, and work schedules. The researchers stress that the software is private and not accessible to the public yet, following fraudulent claims of a "death calculator" using the technology. Its accuracy in predicting death is 78%, while for predicting relocation it is 73%. The project serves as a public counterpoint to private AI algorithms and offers insights into long-term outcomes and the impact of social connections. However, the tool is still in the research stage and not ready for practical use. Concerns are also raised about potential discrimination and privacy violations if such algorithms are used by insurance companies and other businesses.
