How Jaipur’s ECOWRAP Is Using AI To Make Waste Segregation Sustainable

India currently faces a significant waste management crisis due to its rapid urbanization and industrial growth. The country produces over 50 million metric tonnes of municipal solid waste annually, which is expected to increase to 125 million metric tonnes by 2031. Proper segregation of biodegradable, recyclable, and non-recyclable materials is crucial for effective waste management. While there are guidelines and licenses required for setting up recycling units, waste collection is not mandatory. Efforts like the iStart initiative have helped in building partnerships and improving waste management practices. Despite the collection of a significant amount of waste, a portion still goes unaccounted for or ends up in landfills.
