The Indian government is planning to implement a phased timeline for enforcing the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Law. Major tech companies like Meta and Google will have shorter compliance timelines, while startups, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), along with central and state government departments, may receive extended deadlines. Ongoing discussions are being held with various stakeholders to finalize the rules for implementing the DPDP Law, and startups and MSMEs have requested additional time to prepare for the required changes. The government has drafted nearly 21 rules aligned with the DPDP Law, which will be officially announced once finalized.
