Google’s hidden AI diversity prompts lead to outcry over historically inaccurate images

Google has announced that it will be pausing its Gemini AI image-synthesis feature following criticism that the tool was generating historically inaccurate images with regards to diversity. Users had noticed images depicting multi-racial Nazis and medieval British kings with unlikely nationalities. This move comes after Elon Musk also joined the debate, posting a cartoon suggesting that Google's AI progress had taken the "Woke Racist" path. The issue of bias in AI image-synthesis has been seen with other companies as well, with both OpenAI and Meta facing similar challenges.
