Google offers to settle anti-trust case in smart TV probe

- Google has offered to settle an anti-trust case in India after an investigation found its agreements with smart TV makers violated competition law provisions. - This is the first time a company is invoking the brand-new settlement route introduced in India's competition law last year. - Google's settlement application comes after the Director General of Investigation confirmed charges of anti-competitive behavior in a recent report. - The investigation found that Google breached provisions in the Android TV market, including anti-competitive agreements and abuse of market dominance. - The settlement and commitment schemes introduced in the law allow companies to make voluntary commitments to address regulatory concerns or offer to settle the case and pay a lowered penalty. - CCI (Competition Commission of India) is currently reviewing the settlement plea and is expected to make a decision soon.
