Global PE/VC investments decline 11 per cent to $49.8 billion in 2023

Private equity and venture capital investments globally declined by 11% to $49.8 billion in 2023, marking the second consecutive year of decline. The decrease in deals was primarily due to a lack of interest in investing in Indian startups, resulting in only 472 deals in 2023 compared to 815 in the previous year. However, there is optimism for the Indian PE/VC scene in the coming year, with significant amounts of dry powder available and global funds looking to increase capital allocation to India. Growth investments and buyout transactions showed mixed performance during the period. Exits by funds increased by 36% to $24.8 billion, while fundraising by the PE/VC sector declined by 8% to $15.9 billion.
