Global AI guidelines 'normative', unclear about implementation, say researchers

A study by researchers from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul found that global guidelines on AI ethics and governance lack clarity on implementation. The researchers analyzed 200 documents from 37 countries, revealing that while most guidelines focused on privacy, transparency, and accountability, they paid less attention to truthfulness, intellectual property rights, and children's rights. Only a small percentage of guidelines proposed practical methods for implementing AI ethics or advocated for legally binding regulations. The study emphasized the need for greater attention to these principles and more global representation in AI ethics discussions.
