Gameberry Labs, the parent company behind popular online board games such as Ludo Star, Ludo Titan, and Parchisi Star, reported another year of strong growth in FY25, with operating revenue rising 28% year-on-year and profit increasing 18% to Rs 110 crore. Gameberry Labsโ€™ operating revenue climbed 28% year-on-year to Rs 591 crore in FY25 from Rs 461.7 crore in the previous fiscal, as per its consolidated filings with the Registrar of Companies (RoC). Gameberry Labs operates four popular games: Ludo Star, Ludo Titan, Parchisi Star and BackGammon Friends, which together have recorded nearly 150 million downloads, as per the companyโ€™s website. The company primarily earns from in-app purchases, contributing over 84% of its total revenue at Rs 499 crore, a 37% year-on-year increase. The remaining 16% came from advertising, which declined marginally by around 5% to Rs 92 crore in FY25. The company also earned Rs 31.3 crore from interest income, taking its total income to Rs 591 crore in FY25. On the expense front, platform hosting and payment facilitation charges emerged as Gameberryโ€™s largest cost component, accounting for over 30% of total expenses at Rs 143.37 crore, a 33% year-on-year increase. Employee benefit expenses rose 20% to Rs 135.48 crore, while advertising costs surged 42% to Rs 96.7 crore in FY25. Gameberry paid Rs 64 crore in FY25 as part of a settlement agreement with Moonfrog Labs Private Limited (MLPL), linked to a case previously pending before the City Civil Court, Bengaluru. The settlement included a one-time payment of Rs 32.8 crore in FY20, along with a commitment to pay a fixed percentage of its monthly net revenue until 2030. The controlled expenditure and growth in high-margin revenue streams helped Gameberry strengthen its profitability. The companyโ€™s net profit rose 18.5% to Rs 110 crore in FY25, up from Rs 92.8 crore in FY24. On a unit basis, the company spent Rs 0.79 to earn a rupee in the fiscal year. Its EBITDA margin stood at 14.6% and a ROCE of 15.3%. As on March 2025, Gameberryโ€™s current assets stood at Rs 564 crore, including cash and bank balances of Rs 114.8 crore. As a free-to-play gaming firm, Gameberry Labs might have escaped unscathed from the August ban on real money gaming in India. But there will be second order effects that will play out in the sector that will become more apparent as financials for FY26 start coming out. For Gameberry Labs, a stated ambition to go global from the beginning is likely to be tested fiercely, to see if the firm can deliver now. With multiple job openings still up on its site, the firm is giving it a very good go.

The companyโ€™s operating revenue grew by 47% year-on-year, while its profit soared 2.5X to Rs 92.8 crore for the fiscal year ending March 2024. Gameberryโ€™s revenue from operations grew by 46.9% to Rs 461.7 crore in FY24, up from Rs 314.3 crore in FY23, according to its consolidated financial statement filed with the Registrar of Companies (RoC). The company makes money from in-app purchases and advertisements. Revenue from in-app sales spiked 49.4% to Rs 365.4 crore in FY24, contributing 79.1% of total operating revenue. Meanwhile, collection from advertisements grew by 38.2% year-on-year to Rs 96.3 crore. The company also made an additional Rs 23 crore from interest income which pushed its total income to Rs 485 crore in FY24. On the expense side, Gameberryโ€™s total costs rose by 29.6% to Rs 360.5 crore in FY24 from Rs 278.1 crore in FY23. Employee benefit costs, the largest expense category, increased by 9.6% to Rs 112.6 crore. Advertising costs rose significantly by 51% to Rs 67.8 crore, while settlement expense stood at Rs 50.8 crore. Other expenses, which include IT and operational costs, grew by 37.1% to Rs 129.3 crore during the last fiscal year. The settlement expense includes payments tied to an agreement with Moonfrog Labs Private Limited (MLPL) related to a case formerly pending before the City Civil Court, Bengaluru. Under the settlement, Gameberry agreed to a one-time payment of Rs 32.8 crore and a fixed percentage of its monthly net revenues till 2030. The optimization of expenses and growth in high-margin revenue streams enabled Gameberry to improve its profit margins. Gamesberryโ€™s net profit spiked 2.5X to Rs 92.8 crore in FY24 from Rs 37.1 crore in FY23. The firm recorded an EBITDA margin of 26.05% and a ROCE of 30.54% in FY24. On a unit basis, the company spent Rs 0.78 to earn a rupee in the fiscal year. Gameberryโ€™s cash and bank balances stood at Rs 325.7 crore, while its current assets were worth Rs 411 crore as of March 2024. In the real-money gaming sector, MPL recorded a 22.2% rise in revenue from operations, reaching Rs 1,068 crore ($127.9 million) in FY24, while also turning cash flow positive during the year. Meanwhile, major competitors like Dream11, Gameskraft, and A23 are yet to submit their financial results for FY24.

Online gaming startup Winzo registered 2.8X growth in its scale during the fiscal year ending March 2023. Significantly, the Delhi-based company also posted a hefty profit of Rs 126 crore in the same period. Winzoโ€™s revenue from operations surged to Rs 674 crore in FY23 from Rs 234 crore in FY22, its consolidated financial statements filed with the Registrar of Companies show. Established in 2018, Winzo offers over 100 games across categories such as strategy, sports, casual, card, arcade, racing, action, and board games. The service fees levied on the total funds involved in real money games, and the sale of digital or in-app vouchers were the only revenue drivers for Winzo. The company also made Rs 16.78 crore from interest (non-operating), taking its total revenue to Rs 691 core in FY23. Similar to every online gaming platform, Winzo spent a major chunk (46% of its total expenditure) on marketing (advertising cum promotions). This cost surged 29.6% to Rs 258 crore in FY23. For Winzo, however, future investments will beckon soon, both in terms of new game development as well as the high marketing spends, which it will find tough to tamp down for now. But with a growing gamers user base across the country and with itself, next only to China, maintaining margins may not be as tough. This pushed its advertising costs up by 113% to Rs 1,315 crore in FY24 from Rs 616 crore in FY23. Gameskraft employee benefits grew 23.5% to Rs 463 crore in FY24. This includes Rs 12 crore as ESOP cost which is settled in cash. Its legal, communication, domain, web hosting, and other overheads took the overall cost up by 71.7% to Rs 2232 crore in FY24 from Rs 1300 crore in FY23. The more than two-fold increase in advertising costs outpaced Gameskraft's revenue growth, causing its profits to drop by 10.8% to Rs 947 crore in FY24 from Rs 1,062 crore in FY23. Its ROCE and EBITDA margin stood at 69.4% and 37.46% respectively with an expense-to-earning ratio of Rs 0.64. At the end of FY24, Gameskraft's total current assets were recorded at Rs 1,680 crore with the cash and bank balance of Rs 306 crore. In the real-money gaming sector, MPL reported a 22.2% increase in revenue from operations to Rs 1,068 crore in FY24, while also achieving positive cash flow during the year. Gameberry saw a 46.9% growth in revenue to Rs 461.7 crore, with a 150% surge in profit to Rs 92.8 crore in the same period. Meanwhile, major competitors such as Dream11 and A23 have yet to release their financial results for FY24.

Flipkart Internetโ€™s revenue from operations increased to Rs 20,493 crore in FY25, from Rs 17,907 crore in FY24, as per its consolidated financial statements filed with the Registrar of Companies (RoC). Flipkartโ€™s revenue is driven by marketplace, logistics, and advertising services. Income from marketplace services more than doubled to Rs 7,751 crore in FY25 from Rs 3,734 crore in FY24, contributing 38% to operating revenue. Advertising income surged 27% to Rs 6,317 crore, making up 31% of the topline. However, revenue from logistics services declined by 38% to Rs 4,224 crore, reducing its share to 21%. The firm made an additional Rs 314 crore from non-operating sources, which pushed its total revenue to Rs 20,807 crore in the last fiscal year (FY25). On the cost side, the largest cost head remained logistics service charges, which increased 9% to Rs 7,144 crore, accounting for 32% of total expenses. Employee benefit expenses declined 8% to Rs 4,748 crore, while marketing costs rose sharply by 37% to Rs 4,100 crore, making up 18% of overall costs. Collection charges stood at Rs 2,693 crore (12.1% of expenses) and legal/professional fees at Rs 1,394 crore. Overall, Flipkart Internetโ€™s total expenses grew 8% to Rs 22,311 crore in FY25 from Rs 20,627 crore in FY24. Flipkart Internet managed to cut its losses by 37% to Rs 1,494 crore in FY25, from Rs 2,359 crore in FY24. Its EBITDA losses narrowed to Rs 1,078 crore in FY25 from Rs 1,869 crore in FY24, with the EBITDA margin improving from -10.25% to -5.18%. On a unit level, Flipkart spent Rs 1.09 to earn a rupee in FY25, better than Rs 1.15 in FY24. The companyโ€™s current assets stood at Rs 11,952 crore, while cash and bank balances rose to Rs 187 crore.
