Facebook messages hijacked to steal personal info and details

Researchers have discovered a new campaign on Facebook that involves the deployment of a Python-based infostealer called Snake. The primary objective of Snake is to capture sensitive data and credentials from unsuspecting users, particularly focusing on Vietnamese victims. The attack involves the use of seemingly harmless RAR or ZIP files, which, when opened, trigger an infection sequence. Snake is then executed through an actor-controlled GitLab repository. Once the malware is active, it extracts credentials and cookies, targeting platforms like Discord, GitHub, and Telegram, as well as Facebook accounts. The discovery raises concerns about account security and has prompted calls for improved user protection measures.
