Electric vehicle manufacturing startup Tork Motors has raised Rs 50 crore or $6 million from Maxis Capital. It will be the second institutional round for the Pune-based company after a gap of two-and-a-half years. The board at Tork Motors has passed a special resolution to issue 1 equity and 6,912 CCPS at an issue price of Rs 72,425 each to raise Rs 50 crore or $6 million, its regulatory filing accessed from the Registrar of Companies shows. Each preference share issued to the new investor (Maxis Capital) will convert into 1 equity share subject to the relevant conversion period, the filings further added. Established in 2010, Tork Motors is an electric two-wheeler manufacturer renowned for its flagship product, Kratos R. The company initially launched its units in Mumbai and Hyderabad and currently boasts a monthly production capacity of 4,000-5,000 units. The company had plans to broaden its geographical reach and target 70–100 cities by 2023 end. In October, Tork Motors announced its partnership with EV software and charging infra provider Bolt.Earth to provide 30,000 charging points to its customers. As per startup data intelligence platform TheKredible, the company has been valued at around Rs 370 crore or $45 million post-allotment. Tork Motors has raised around $16 million across rounds. Bharat Forge is the largest stakeholder with 52.46% followed by Maxis Advisors which owns 13.51%. Its founder and chief executive officer Kapil Shelke commands 19.42% of the company. During the period, the company’s losses saw a 5.7X spike to Rs 47.9 crore in FY23 from Rs 8.34 crore in FY22. Tork Motors competes with the likes of Ultraviolette Automotive, Revolt and Pure EV.

Electric mobility startup Matter has raised Rs 82.6 crore (approximately $10 million) in a new round. This is the maiden round of equity funding for the Ahmedabad-based e-bike manufacturer. The board at Matter has issued 1,12,837 CCPS at an issue price of Rs 7,320 each to raise Rs 82.6 crore (approximately $10 million), its regulatory filing accessed from the Registrar of Companies shows. Japan Airlines & Translink Fund invested Rs 25 crore while Info Edge backed Capital 2B Fund poured in Rs 10.8 crore. Helena Special Investments Fund and Abhay P Shah, on behalf of Miracle Carriers are likely to participate in the fundraising. As per TheKredible estimates, the company has been valued at around Rs 1,690 crore or $204 million post-allotment. The e-bike manufacturer was reportedly in talks to raise $200 million to expand its operations, distribution and factory setup. Matter launched its maiden bike in early 2023 and began its pre-orders in May 2023. A year-old firm was in the pre-revenue stage during the fiscal year ended March 2023 while the losses for the firm stood at Rs 25 crore in the same period. It’s yet to file its annual results for FY24. Matter positions itself as a premium brand and this could be evident from its price-range which starts from Rs 1.7 lakh. Unlike Ola Electric and Ather, Matter is not targeting a mass audience and doesn’t compete with the two and other traditional manufacturers. In the e-bike segment, Matter competes with Bharat Forge-backed Tork Motors, TVS-backed Ultraviolette and RattanIndia Enterprises controlled Revolt. Tork Motors raised $6 million from Maxis Capital in January this year whereas Ultraviolette has been reportedly in talks to raise a larger round to the tune of $100 million. Ola Electric, which currently manufactures electric scooters, is also planning to enter the e-bike segment by FY26.

EV tech and energy storage firm Matter Motor announced that it has secured a first tranche of $35 million in Series B round led by US-based venture capital firm Helena. Other notable investors in this round include, Capital 2B, Japan Airlines & Translink Innovation Fund, Saad Bahwan Investment Management Company (SB Invest), other Institutional investors and Family Offices. The capital will be used to accelerate MATTER’s innovations in electric motorbikes and scaling in manufacturing, supply chain, marketing and retail, the company said in a press release. The firm recently raised $10 million as a part of the ongoing round which is likely to be closed at around $70 million. As per TheKredible’s estimates, the company has been valued at around Rs 1,690 crore or $204 million post-allotment. The valuation will vary after the completion of the round. Matter launched its maiden bike in early 2023 and began its pre-orders in May 2023. The firm has developed its in-house technology stack, leveraging the power of data, software and machine intelligence to create a 4-speed hyper-shift geared electric motorbike, AERA. As per the company, its product empowers riders to charge anywhere by delivering over 125 kms range per charge with a 5-amp onboard charging system. As of now, Matter has secured 40,000 pre-bookings for its electric motorbike AERA, which is set to commence deliveries this festive season. Recently, Matter’s chief executive said that the firm ​​is looking to raise between $100 million and $200 million in the next two years to establish a new manufacturing facility with total installed capacity for producing 1 million e-motorbikes. Matter was in the pre-revenue stage during the fiscal year ended March 2023 while the losses for the firm stood at Rs 25 crore in the same period. It’s yet to file its annual results for FY24. Commercial electric vehicle manufacturer ​​Euler Motors has raised Rs 200 crore ($24 million) more in Series C round led by new investor Piramal Alternatives India Access Fund. Existing investors British International Investment and Blume Ventures also participated in the funding tranche. Euler Motors will utilize the fresh proceeds for pan-India presence and raising servicing infrastructure in 40 cities by March 2025, Euler Motors said in a press release. With this, the Delhi-based company also claimed to raise Rs 570 crore ($68.6 million) in its series C round. The firm had raised Rs 120 crore (approximately $14.5 million) in an extended Series C round co-led by British International Investment and Blume Ventures in November last year. It has raised Rs 770 crore ($92 million) to date. As per startup data intelligence platform TheKredible, Euler was valued at around $160 million during an extended Series C round in November 2023. According to Euler Motors, its commercial electric vehicles collectively transported goods over 45 million kilometers. The company’s flagship model HiLoad EV claims to be the most powerful electric cargo three-wheeler, with a range of 170 kilometers. In FY24, the company claims to have sold 3,700 vehicles and expanded its presence from 5 to 22 cities. On the lines of many startups, Euler also laid off 10% of its employees to cut costs and navigate through a tight funding environment. For the fiscal year ending in March 2023, Euler registered Rs 61.53 crore in revenue from operations against Rs 17.57 crore in FY22. As per TheKredible, its losses spiked nearly 5X to Rs 174.73 crore in FY23 from Rs 36.33 crore in the previous year. The heavy losses could be attributed to investment made by the firm in creating infrastructure and facilities. In the electric three-wheeler space, it competes with Altigreen and legacy players like Mahindra Electric, Piaggio, Kinetic Green, and Tata, among others.

Artificial intelligence startup UptimeAI has raised $14 million in its Series A funding round led by WestBridge Capital. The round also saw participation from existing investor Emergent Ventures and new investor Aditya Birla Ventures. UptimeAI will use the proceeds to scale up its tech platform, expand product portfolio and presence in North America, Middle East and Asia. The company has bases in Bengaluru and San Francisco as well. Five-year-old UptimeAI creates AI-based solutions that help plant operators maximise efficiency and reliability. As per the company, its team has core competency in areas including power, oil and gas, chemicals, metals, and aerospace among others. UptimeAI’s four modules include – connect the dots, no code predictive alerts, inferencing engine for prescriptive actions, and continuous self-learning. It has a patented system and method for monitoring complex structures to identify the root cause of inefficiencies. In September last year, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) tied up with UptimeAI to optimize operational efficiency. Led by Jagadish Gattu and Vamsi Yalamanchili, UptimeAI was one of the selected startups in the YourNest SOAR Program. In February 2021, UptimeAI also raised $1.5 million in seed funding from YourNest Venture Capital and angel investors. UptimeAI competes with Tiger Global-backed Infinite Uptime, which raised $18.85 million in a round in May last year. Other global competitors include Sight Machine , Prospection SparkCognition, and Augury.
