EU admin needs to be fit for green, AI future, says top official

European Union countries' budget cuts have resulted in reduced staff in public administration and hindered the introduction of new technologies, according to Elisa Ferreira, European commissioner for cohesion and reforms. This has created a challenge for public administrations in adapting to the demands of green budgeting and implementing artificial intelligence. The EU has allocated a fund of 864 million euros to support member states in preparing for future challenges and carrying out reforms. The selected projects for 2024 focus on the green transition and digital shift, including sustainable aviation fuel production and supporting regions heavily affected by the green transition. Financial supervisors will also receive training on the risks and opportunities of advanced technologies like AI in the financial sector.
