Discord to start showing ads for gamers to boost revenue

Social media platform Discord will begin displaying advertisements on its free service in an attempt to boost revenue. The ads, which will initially be from video game makers, will offer users rewards for completing in-game tasks while friends observe. Discord, a popular service for gamers, has previously stated it would not rely on ads like other tech platforms. However, its decision to introduce ads could diminish user trust and lead them to explore other alternatives. Users will have the option to disable the ads in their settings. Discord currently has over 200 million monthly active users and generates revenue through its Nitro subscription service.

If they make the ads compulsory then I will reduce my frequency of accessing the discord or may also leave the platform. There are very few platforms which are ad free rn and I don't like ads. So I would better leave the platform.
