Google's DeepMind, along with researchers from New York University, has developed an AI system called AlphaGeometry that can solve complex geometry problems at a high level. Instead of using examples to teach the system how to prove theorems, they allowed it to train itself using a neural language model and synthesized millions of known theorems and proofs. AlphaGeometry performed on par with gold medalists at the International Mathematical Olympiad in solving 25 out of 30 problems. The researchers believe the system has the potential to expand to other domains beyond geometry.

DeepMind has developed AlphaGeometry, an AI system that can solve complex geometry problems as effectively as an International Mathematical Olympiad gold medalist. The system, which combines a neural language model with a symbolic deduction engine, outperformed the previous state-of-the-art system by solving 25 Olympiad geometry problems within the standard time limit. DeepMind created synthetic data by generating 100 million "synthetic theorems" and proofs to train AlphaGeometry from scratch. The results suggest that a hybrid approach combining symbol manipulation and neural networks could be an effective strategy for future general-purpose AI systems.

Billionaire investor Peter Thiel believes that the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) will have a more negative impact on math enthusiasts rather than writers. Thiel, known for co-founding PayPal and as a leading figure in the tech industry, stated that AI models are expected to be able to solve math problems at the level of the US Math Olympiad within three to five years. He argued that societies, including Silicon Valley, have been too biased towards math, highlighting the potential rebalancing effect of AI replacing certain roles in the field.

Quantum computers, which utilize the strange behavior of particles at the subatomic level, have the potential to revolutionize our lives. Unlike conventional binary systems, quantum computers use qubits, which can represent complex mixtures of zero and one. These machines can solve optimization problems that involve a massive number of possibilities, which would be impossible for classical computers to handle. Quantum computers have already shown their capabilities by outperforming the world's most powerful supercomputers in certain calculations. Although large-scale quantum computers are still at least a decade away, research and development in this field are paving the way for practical applications, from optimizing flight connections to solving complex scientific problems.

Cognition AI, a startup, has developed an artificial intelligence program called Devin that can perform tasks typically done by software engineers. Devin not only generates code but also plans how to solve a problem, writes code, conducts testing, and implements it. The program has demonstrated its capabilities in handling various impressive tasks. However, the emergence of AI agents that can take action to solve problems also brings risks and potential failures. Google DeepMind is also developing AI agents, such as SIMA, which can perform complex tasks in video games and potentially be used outside of gaming applications.
