China import concerns spur US to launch semiconductor supply chain review

The US Department of Commerce plans to conduct a survey of the semiconductor supply chain and national defense industrial base to address national security concerns related to Chinese-sourced chips. This survey aims to identify how US companies are sourcing legacy chips and reduce the national security risks posed by China. The US will award nearly $40 billion in subsidies for semiconductor chip manufacturing and wants to promote a level playing field for chip production. China has provided an estimated $150 billion in subsidies to its semiconductor industry in the last decade.
