BharatGPT consortium unveils 'Hanooman', a series of Indic large language models

The BharatGPT consortium, led by IIT Bombay, has introduced 'Hanooman', a series of Indic large language models trained on 22 Indian languages. The models, ranging from 1.5 billion to 40 billion parameters in size, are designed for enterprise use and will be open-sourced. They currently support 11 Indian languages, with plans to extend to all 22. Hanooman offers multimodal AI capabilities and is already in discussions with various industries for customized applications. However, one of the key challenges is sourcing quality datasets in Indian languages. Other models in the Indic AI space include Krutrim, OpenHathi, and Airavata.
