Australia's spy boss seeks more co-operation from big tech in hunt for extremists

Australia's spy agency, the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO), claims that its ability to investigate a racist extremist group is being hindered by technology companies that refuse to cooperate in accessing encrypted communication. ASIO Chief Mike Burgess will highlight this issue in a speech, noting how offshore extremists are seeking advice on weapon-building from commercially available AI programs. Burgess will urge tech platforms to provide access to user messages, granted under Australian law in certain cases with a warrant. ASIO is currently investigating Australians involved in a nationalist and racist extremist network that uses encrypted chat platforms for communication.
