At major China chip fair, firms ramp up call to buy domestic

Chinese semiconductor companies showcased their products at the SEMICON China fair in Shanghai, emphasizing the need for domestic buying and self-reliance in the industry. Many exhibitors highlighted that their products could replace foreign-made ones, while acknowledging the quality gap that still exists. The U.S. export curbs on advanced chips and technology have encouraged Beijing to boost its domestic chip industry. However, analysts note that despite significant investments, there is still a gap to bridge due to the complex and globally interconnected nature of the chip supply chain. Few U.S. firms attended the event, while Chinese companies are gaining more orders and prioritization due to cost advantages.
