The U.K. government proposes mandatory reporting for ransomware victims to help law enforcement target cybercriminals. The strategy includes banning ransom payments for public and critical infrastructure, and requiring notification if an organization plans to pay. It aims to disrupt hacking operations and support victims. Experts support the move, acknowledging ransomware operators as catchable and prosecutable. While controversial, the proposal seeks to deter cyberattacks and impose costs on threat actors.

The BBC has raised concerns with Apple over a false summary notification that attributed a shooting to the wrong person. The BBC notified Apple after the notification falsely suggested that they had reported that Luigi Mangione shot himself. While the first part of the notification was incorrect, it did accurately reference other stories about Bashar Al-Assad and a raid on the South Korean president's office. This incident follows several other examples of the AI summary feature misinterpreting headlines, such as turning a reference to a difficult hike into "attempted suicide." Users have the option to customize or disable the feature in their iPhone settings.
