| 1mApple reportedly gives up on its MicroLED dream for now
Apple is reportedly halting its plans to develop a MicroLED display for the Apple Watch due to high costs and complexity. The decision was made around the same time as the cancellation of Apple's self-driving car project. This aligns with earlier reports that production costs were too high for the in-house MicroLED display to be economically viable. As a result, Apple has cut several dozen engineering jobs and its plans to release an Apple Watch with an in-house MicroLED display in 2024 or 2025 are now uncertain.
