Apple has announced that it will allow customers and independent repair shops to use used components to fix iPhones. This includes parts such as batteries, displays, and cameras, which previously required configuration. Apple defends the use of genuine components as important for user security and privacy. The announcement coincides with the passage of Oregon's right-to-repair bill, although it is unlikely that the changes will make the iPhone fully compliant with the bill. Apple also plans to enhance Activation Lock to deter theft. However, the company has no plans to sell refurbished parts for user repairs.
