Apple is developing AI chips for data centers, seeking edge in arms race
Apple is reportedly developing its own chip for running artificial intelligence (AI) software in data center servers, potentially giving the company an advantage in the AI sector. The project, code-named Project ACDC, has been underway for several years, and it is unclear when the chip will be unveiled. Apple has previously collaborated with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. to develop such chips. The focus of the server chip is expected to be on running AI models rather than training them, an area currently dominated by chip maker Nvidia. Apple CEO Tim Cook has promised major AI announcements soon.
