Apple is already defending iMessage against tomorrow’s quantum computing attacks

Apple is set to introduce a new cryptographic protocol called PQ3 in its upcoming software updates to bolster iMessage encryption and defend against potential quantum computing attacks. This move reflects Apple's preparation for a future where bad actors may attempt to undermine existing encryption standards. According to Apple's security team, PQ3 elevates iMessage's security to "Level 3," surpassing other widely used messaging apps in terms of protocol protections. Apple considers this advancement enough to surpass competitors like Signal, which recently implemented enhanced security defenses. The new protocol also addresses the issue of hackers storing encrypted data for potential decryption once quantum computers become a viable threat.
