The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has filed a complaint against Apple, alleging that the company violated labor laws by withholding benefits from unionized workers at its Towson, Maryland store. The Towson Apple Store became the first in the country to unionize in June 2022. The complaint follows a prior complaint filed by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) last year. The NLRB and IAM claim that Apple excluded the unionized workers from improved benefits offered to other Apple Store employees nationwide.

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has ruled that Amazon engaged in unlawful practices during mandatory meetings aimed at dissuading unionization. The board stated that these meetings, commonly known as captive audience meetings, interfere with workers' rights to decide whether to unionize. Amazon managers reportedly made promises to resolve grievances if workers rejected the union and illegally threatened to withhold benefits and raises if the warehouse unionized. Amazon has been ordered to post a notice of the violations at the warehouse and can appeal the decision. The NLRB's ban on captive audience meetings may face legal challenges.

If successful, they would join the Communications Workers of America, which already represents other Apple Store employees. Although four other Apple Stores have previously attempted unionization, only two have been successful in forming a union. Apple has faced criticism and legal action in the past for its treatment of employees engaging in pro-union activities. The contract provides a 10% raise over three years, along with the same benefits as nonunion stores and guaranteed severance pay. The negotiations had been stalled over equal access to benefits and Apple's scheduling policy for part-time workers, but both issues were resolved. The agreement is expected to provide momentum for future organizing campaigns at other Apple Stores. The store in Oklahoma City is now seeking a similar contract.
