Appario Retail, the largest seller on Amazon India, may change its plans to shut down its seller entity. Amazon and Patni Group, the joint venture partners of Appario’s parent firm Frontizo, had initially planned to shut down the seller entity. However, instead of stopping sales on Amazon India, Patni Group and Amazon are exploring options to bring in a new joint venture partner to replace Amazon for Appario Retail. Talks are ongoing to find a legally sound solution, allowing Appario to continue selling on the marketplace. Appario is a crucial seller for Amazon, accounting for a significant volume of orders.

Amazon Seller Services, the main marketplace unit of Amazon in India, experienced a stagnant growth in FY23. While operating revenues increased by only 3.4% to Rs 22,198 crore, losses rose by 33% to Rs 4,854 crore. The decline in revenue can be attributed to the decrease in commissions from related party sellers like Cloudtail and Appario, which dropped by 65% due to government regulations. However, revenues from third-party merchants saw a 33% increase to Rs 12,549 crore, accounting for more than 50% of Amazon India's ecommerce income. Amazon's advertising revenues grew by 29% to Rs 5,380 crore.
