Amazon and other US companies in crosshairs on warehouse safety

Lawmakers in Washington, D.C. have introduced the Warehouse Worker Protection Act (WWPA), a federal bill that seeks to regulate productivity targets in the warehousing industry. The bill requires companies to disclose productivity targets to employees and prohibits employers from holding workers to standards that jeopardize their safety. Advocates argue that workers deserve consistent safety standards, while opponents, such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, view the bill as burdensome. Several states, including California, New York, and Minnesota, have already implemented similar laws to protect warehouse workers from unsafe working conditions. Amazon, which operates the largest warehouses in the U.S., faces scrutiny for its working practices.
