Advancing embodied AI through progress in touch perception, dexterity, and human-robot interaction

Facebook's Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) team is focused on developing embodied AI agents that can perceive and interact with their environment, while ensuring safe coexistence with humans. They are releasing research artifacts that advance touch perception, robot dexterity, and human-robot interaction. These include Meta Sparsh, a touch representation that works across different sensors and tasks, Meta Digit 360, a tactile fingertip with multimodal sensing capabilities, and Meta Digit Plexus, a standardized hardware-software platform for integrating tactile sensors onto a robot hand. Facebook is also partnering with GelSight Inc and Wonik Robotics to manufacture and distribute these innovations. The PARTNR benchmark is introduced as a standardized framework for evaluating planning and reasoning in human-robot collaboration, aiming to drive advancements in collaborative intelligence.
