Accel-backed OpenFX appoints former CoinDCX AVP as India product lead In his LinkedIn post, founder and CEO Prabhakar Reddy said that the company is also hiring across engineering, product, and operations. OpenFX, a fintech infrastructure startup for cross-border payments, has appointed a former CoinDCX executive Sourav Karmakar to lead its India business. The firm has also appointed Alex Rowles as Head of Trading and Risk and Ethan Mackie to lead Product Operations. For India, Karmakar has been appointed as INR Product Lead. Formerly India AVP Product at CoinDCX, he has joined OpenFX to lead the company’s INR-focused cross-border remittance offerings for businesses. His role includes developing INR payment infrastructure for cross-border transactions and overseeing OpenFX’s expansion in global B2B payments. Beyond crypto, Karmakar has experience across fintech and consumer internet businesses. His previous roles include positions at WhiteHat Jr, Vedantu, DocsApp–MediBuddy, and Koo. Founded by serial entrepreneur Reddy, former co-founder and COO of FalconX, OpenFX is building a real-time FX network for near-instant cross-border settlements. The platform claims to make FX transfers 99% faster and up to 90% cheaper, while running round the clock throughout the year, without the limits of banking hours, weekends, or holidays. The development comes six months after OpenFX’s $23 million seed funding round led by Accel, with participation from NFX, Lightspeed Faction, Castle Island Ventures, and others. At the time of the fundraise, the company had a team of 42 operating globally across the US, UK, UAE, and India.

According to CoinDCX, these leadership appointments support its focus on onboarding more Indian investors over the next six months. The company is also expanding its workforce, with plans to increase hiring by 15% as part of its growth strategy. It aims to build secure, efficient, and user-focused trading systems for Indian users. Amol Wanjari, formerly with Amazon, has over 20 years of experience and has held engineering roles at Amazon Pay, Acko, and Bizongo. His background includes work on distributed systems, AI-based tools, and platform development, along with experience in team development and infrastructure delivery. "My focus will be on strengthening this foundation and making the platform even more seamless, reliable, and intuitive for every kind of investor. We have a strong team of over 200 engineering professionals, and therefore we’re well-positioned to innovate at scale and redefine the future of crypto investing in India," said Amol Wanjari. Sangeeth Aloysius, formerly with Flipkart, has over 18 years of experience in product management. He previously served as Senior Director and Head of Products at Flipkart, where he worked on consumer experience, pricing, loyalty, and supply chain. He is an alumnus of the Indian School of Business. With a user base of over 1.9 crore, CoinDCX is working to improve platform access, expand its offerings, and enhance its trading experience through technology and operational changes.

He joins from Cisco’s corporate development team, where he led global investments and M&A for the Customer Experience portfolio. His track record includes notable bets on Fiddler, Uniphore, and Whatfix. Previously, he helped launch Infosys’s $500 million innovation fund, investing in companies like Ideaforge and Whoop. He began his career at VMware and Deloitte, bringing a rare combination of product, strategy, and venture experience. “The ongoing AI platform shift offers a once-in-a-generation opportunity. I’m excited to partner with ambitious founders driving this evolution,” said Mitra. This appointment follows Bessemer’s announcement of its $350 million second India fund, with a focus on AI, fintech, enterprise, digital health, consumer, and cybersecurity. The firm has backed companies like Swiggy, Urban Company, Mediassist, Perfios, and recently Boldfit, Easebuzz, Protectt, Shopdeck, among others.

In his new role, Gupta will be responsible for meeting the company’s growth goals, focusing on international expansion, building high-performance teams, and driving profitability. According to CoinDCX, Gupta will continue to be responsible for the India market, strengthening its product portfolio, marketing, partnerships, and operations to accelerate the firm’s strategic growth in India. He joined the platform in 2021 as its chief operating officer (COO) and has been instrumental in building compliant crypto investment & trading products. Prior to CoinDCX, he was the chief strategy officer at Pine Labs. He also had a stint at Stellaris Venture Partners, Goldman Sachs, his own startup and consulted multiple banks across India & South East Asia. Recently, CoinDCX has acquired BitOasis as they are planning to enter into the Middle East and North African market. Launched in 2018 by Sumit Gupta, CoinDCX is a cryptocurrency trading platform designed to facilitate cryptocurrency transactions. The company’s platform allows customers to trade multiple cryptocurrencies legally and withdraw funds to their bank account.
