The meeting was prompted by the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases in Singapore and Hong Kong. They noted that most of the recent cases reported in Singapore and Hong Kong are mild, with no unusual increase in severity or mortality. As of May 19, 2025, India has only 257 active COVID-19 cases a remarkably low number for a country of its size.
