People might have sophisticated thesis behind their angel investment, but this chat is a fairly good indicator of how I invest. Company kya hai, product kya hai, TAM kya hai - ye sab kehne bolne ke liye hai. And that is probably why I haven’t made much money angel investing. Unless you feel like this is way of giving back to the community, there is no point doing it. It is highly unlikely that you will make great returns via this route. Do it with the money you are willing to gamble with and I like to gamble on folks from my college or from Jaipur. My hope is that one of these gambles turns out to be a 100x story. Picking college / Jaipur is not exactly by choice. I invest a very small amount. Roughly in the range of 2-5 lakhs. No serious startup would reach out to me for something so small unless the founder and I have a common connect. So, if you are planning to take a plunge - look in your network. Try being a part of the journey of someone you know and like. May be you will end up making a shit ton of money. GREED IS GOOD!

Angel investing does have an element of chance, especially for smaller investors. Investing in your network can be fulfilling, even if it’s high-risk

You never know sometimes that one small bet on someone you know can pay off in ways you can’t imagine. A 100x story isn’t out of the question, but yeah, it’s probably wise to only invest what you’re willing to lose

The 'college connection' approach feels too random for me. In my experience, angel investing is about identifying founders who know the industry inside out, not just folks you have a personal connection with. Data over sentiment any day

I get the appeal of investing based on personal connections, but skipping the fundamentals like market size or product fit sounds risky. Due diligence is there for a reason. This approach might explain why angel investing hasn't worked out for you
