Hi guys I am working with a small startup(25 employees) for almost 6 months now, there is no single doc about the system design, 0 ER diagrams, no such thing as documentation The db here has millions of docs in some collections. It's hard for me to work on this, always need to ask my seniors. Is this a normal scenario or this needs a change Plz share ur opinions

No ER diagrams? No system design? Millions of docs in a messy DB? That’s a recipe for disaster. If you ever scale beyond 25 people, the whole system might collapse. If they’re not documenting now, they’ll face massive tech debt soon.

In the beginning, people hack things together to get the product out quickly. But long-term, this is gonna bite them back. You should push for some basic documentation; otherwise, the system will become impossible to scale or maintain.

This happens all the time in small companies. They’re too focused on shipping products, so documentation becomes a second priority. But yeah, it’s a pain for anyone trying to work in that mess.

Dude I work in small startup as well and we are a team of 13. Trust me it's normal. Startups have to work at fast pace so can't waste time in documentation etc soon you will get the hang of it. Once startup gets they can allocate some team members to do the laundry.

the lack of documentation can seriously hinder productivity and onboarding. It’s important to prioritize creating some form of system design and ER diagrams to avoid these issues long-term.
