When a startup scales rapidly, the engineering team often grows quickly as well. Management may expect the same level of output as when the team was smaller, even though processes were not yet in place. What needs to happen instead is having a strong communicator on the team who can convince upper management why a feature will take time, and that this will be the new standard pace going forward. This requires changing their metrics for measuring progress.
