Foodtech and quick commerce platform Zomato on Thursday released its financial results for the first quarter of the ongoing fiscal year (Q1 FY25). The Gurugram-based company has reported around an 18.1% increase in revenue with a 44.6% growth in profits. Zomato’s revenue from operations grew to Rs 4,206 crore in Q1 FY25 as compared to Rs 3,562 crore in Q4 FY24, its consolidated financial results sourced from the National Stock Exchange (NSE) show. Zomato’s food and delivery biz accounted for 46.17% of the total collection in Q1 FY25 which grew 11.7% to Rs 1,942 crore in Q1 FY25. The revenue from Hyperpure supplies (B2B) and quick commerce vertical (Blinkit) grew 27.4% and 22.5% to Rs 1,212 crore and Rs 942 crore, respectively. Income from “going-out” and other non-operating income took Zomato Group’s overall revenue to Rs 4,442 crore in Q1 FY25. Being a food tech major, the cost for delivery and related charges formed 31.6% of the overall expenditure which increased 18.8% to Rs 1,328 crore in Q1 FY25. The firm’s spending on procurement, employee benefits, advertising, and marketing pushed its overall expenditure to Rs crore 4,203 in Q1FY25 from Rs 3,636 crore in Q4FY24. A stellar growth in scale allowed Zomato to record a 44.6% spike in its profits to Rs 253 crore in Q1 FY25 from Rs 175 crore in Q4 FY24. On a unit level, the company spent Rs 0.99 to earn a rupee in Q1 FY25. With the consistent gain in its market cap, the food tech firm also rewarded its employees with an additional ESOP plan of $458 million. Zomato’s initial public offering opened at Rs 115, a 51% increase from its price band of Rs 76. The company’s current share price is Rs 237.9 (as of 03.40 PM), with a total market capitalization of over $25 billion, which led to Deepinder Goyal becoming a billionaire last month.

Deepinder Goyal, founder and CEO of Zomato, has entered the billionaire dollar club as the value of his holdings in the foodtech firm surpassed Rs 8,400 crore. With this, Goyal joins the ranks of Sachin and Binny Bansal, Nikhil and Nitin Kamath, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Byju’s Reveendran, and Ritesh Agarwal who hit a similar high at some point with their startups’ growth and valuation. As of March 31, 2024, Goyal owned a 4.19% stake in Zomato and had 36,94,71,500 shares. Since the Info Edge-backed firm recently hit its all time high share price ~Rs 232, the value of his personal holding crossed $1 billion. Zomato currently has a market capitalization of Rs 2,01,343 crore or $24.25 billion (as of 11.27 AM IST on July 15). With 36,94,71,500 equity shares, Deepinder Goyal’s holdings are valued at Rs 8,423 crore ($1.01 billion), as per Entrackr’s estimate. Food tech major also received shareholder approval to implement a new ESOP plan 2024 valued at $458 million. With the implementation of its new ESOP plan, the company’s total ESOP value surpassed $800 million. After Flipkart, Zomato seems to have the largest ESOP pool at the moment in the startup arena. In 2021, Oyo’s ESOP pool was worth close to $1 billion followed by Paytm, Nykaa and Policybazaar. However, value of Oyo and Paytm’s ESOP pool has nosedived since then in the wake of colossal loss in their valuations. While the holdings of bootstrapped startup’s founders such as Kamath brothers and Sridhar Vembu fortune are estimated to exceed $1 billion, Goyal has turned out to be the new entrant in the billionaire club from the VC-backed ecosystem. The good times for Zomato have continued on the stock exchange despite the company increasing its platform fees to Rs 6 in Delhi and Bengaluru. The company introduced a platform fee of Rs 2 in August last year, which was increased to Rs 5 in April, and now stands at Rs 6 per order as the firm looks to improve margin. Swiggy also spiked its platform fee to Rs 6 in the two cities. Zomato showed a robust growth in the last fiscal year (FY24) as its revenue from operations surged 71% year-on-year to Rs 12,114 crore in FY24 from Rs 7,079 crore in FY22. Moreover, the profits of the company stood at Rs 351 crore in FY24 as compared to a loss of Rs 971 crore in FY23.

Zomato Limited announced on Friday that it has raised Rs 8,500 crore through a Qualified Institutions Placement (QIP) of equity shares. Last week, the foodtech firm received shareholders’ approval for the fundraise. The issuance involved 33,64,73,755 equity shares at Rs 252.62 each, including a premium of Rs 251.62 per share. This issuance price represents a 5% discount on the determined floor price of Rs 265.91 per share, the company informed in its stock exchange filings. This capital infusion is expected to bolster Zomato's financial position, facilitating business expansion and strategic initiatives, especially in the quick commerce space via Blinkit. The offering, which opened on November 25 and closed on November 28, received approval from Zomato’s Fund Raising Committee during its meeting held earlier today. Prominent mutual funds, such as ICICI Prudential and Motilal Oswal, were among the significant allottees, with the latter acquiring a total of 6.92 crore shares, accounting for 20.81% of the issue size. After the transaction, Zomato’s paid-up equity share capital has risen to Rs 917.28 crore. For the fiscal year ending in, Zomato achieved a remarkable 68.5% quarter-on-quarter growth in operating revenue, reaching Rs 4,799 crore in Q2 FY25 from Rs 2,848 crore in Q2 FY24. The company also recorded a 4.8x increase in net profit to Rs 176 crore in the September quarter. A recent report by Motilal Oswal highlights that Blinkit, owned by Zomato, dominates the quick commerce market with a 46% share. Zepto holds the second position with a 29% share, while Swiggy Instamart follows in third place with a 25% market share. Compared to the closing price of last Friday (November 22), Zomato saw a 6.8% rise to Rs 282 per share at 11:30 AM on November 29, 2024. The company’s market cap currently stands at around Rs 2,35,481 crore or $28 billion, while its closest rival, Swiggy, is trading at Rs 470 per share with a market cap of Rs 90,712 crore or $10.7 billion.

Online travel aggregator (OTA) Yatra has released its financial results for the third quarter of the ongoing fiscal year (Q3 FY24). After sinking into the red in Q2, the company bounced back and recorded profits in Q3 along with crossing Rs 110 crore revenue mark during the period. Yatra’s revenue from operations grew 17.2% to Rs 110.3 crore in Q3 FY24 as compared to Rs 94.13 crore Q2 FY24, as per the firm’s consolidated financial results sourced from the National Stock Exchange. While compared to Q3 of the previous fiscal year (Q3 FY23), the operating revenue of the company increased over 23% from Rs 89.6 crore. The company made 40.3% of its total operating revenue via Hotels and packages bookings which grew 23.4% to Rs 44.5 crore in Q3 FY24 from Rs 36.06 crore in Q2 of the same financial year. Revenue from air ticketing increased 5.9% to Rs 41.5 crore during the same period. The remaining Rs 24.3 crore came from other operating services and advertising income from hosting ads on its website, sale of coupons and vouchers and facilitating website access to travel insurance company. Yatra also earned Rs 8.86 crore as non-operating income (mainly from interest and gains on financial assets). This took the overall revenue to Rs 119.2 crore during the quarter. On the cost front, service cost which only relates to its hotel and packages vertical accounted for 23% of the total expenses. This cost surged 68.7% to Rs 26.9 crore in Q3 from Rs 15.95 crore in Q2 of the same fiscal. Whereas, employee benefits expenses for the company shrank 12.6% to Rs 32 crore during the quarter from Rs 36.6 crore in Q2 FY24. Yatra also incurred marketing and promotion costs of Rs 10.7 crore and payment gateway expense of Rs 12.7 crore in Q3 FY24. In total, Yatra’s overall expenditure increased just 3% to Rs 117 crore during Q3 from Rs 113.6 crore in Q2 FY24. With the controlled expenses, Yatra turned profitable and booked Rs 1.06 crore profits Q3 against Rs 17.13 crore loss in the previous quarter. Last year in the same quarter (Q3 FY23), it posted Rs 5.6 crore in losses. On a unit level, Yatra Online spent Re 1.06 to earn a rupee of operating revenue in Q3 of FY24. For the nine-months period (Apr-Dec 2023), the firm registered Rs 314.6 crore revenue from operations with a loss of Rs 10.08 crore. Yatra Online made its entry into the Indian public market in September last year with a share price of around Rs 136. With a market cap of over Rs 2,700 crore, it is currently trading at Rs 170 per share. Other than this, the company is also listed on NASDAQ with a current share price of $1.64 per share and a market cap of $105 million.

Hyperpure provides farm-to-fork supplies to restaurants and businesses while Blinkit offers kirana, FMCG, and other essentials within 10 minutes. The firm made 38.3% of its total operating revenue (Rs 2,072 crore) via the food ordering and delivery business. Collections from its Hyperpure supplies (B2B business) increased 13.4% to Rs 1,671 crore during the same period while the quick commerce vertical (Blinkit) contributed Rs 1,399 crore to the group’s coffers. The remaining income came from the ‘Going-out’ segment and other operating activities during the quarter ending December 2024. Blinkit’s revenue ramped up over 117% YoY from Rs 644 crore generated in Q3 FY24. Zomato also earned Rs 252 crore as non-operating income (mainly from interest and gains on financial assets) in Q3 FY25. As a result, its overall revenue reached Rs 5,657 crore during the period. Coming to expenses, delivery and related charges accounted for 26% in Q3 which registered at Rs 1,450 crore. The purchase of stock (after adjustment of changes in inventories) inclined to Rs 1,500 crore, while employee benefits cost was at Rs 689 crore during the quarter. Zomato also spent Rs 521 crore on and promotions, akin to which its total expenditure rose 63.6% YoY to Rs 5,533 crore in Q3 of FY25. Zomato’s profits slipped 57.2% YoY to Rs 59 crore in Q3. In the previous quarter (Q2 FY25), it booked Rs 176 crore in profits. On a unit level, the company spent Rs 1.02 to earn a rupee in Q3 of FY25. For the nine-month ended period (Apr-Dec 2025), Zomato recorded Rs 14,410 crore revenue from operations with a profit of Rs 488 crore. In December 2024, Zomato achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian startup to join the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex 30, replacing JSW Steel Limited. In the race for instant food delivery, a few days back, Zomato re-introduced a 15-minute food delivery service in select cities. The company also received a GST demand notice amounting to Rs 803 crore from the Thane Commissionerate in Maharashtra, related to the non-payment of GST on delivery charges, including interest and penalties. In the first week of January, Zomato was trading above Rs 250 when its foreign brokerage Jefferies downgraded Zomato from “buy” to “hold” rating, citing competition in the quick commerce space. Following the rating, its price tumbled down under Rs 230, however, on the back of strong YoY growth, the company is regaining momentum as its price is at Rs 239.9 with a market cap of Rs 2,10,336 crore or $24.3 Bn. In December 2024, Zomato achieved its all-time high price at Rs 304.5 a share.

Online B2B travel distribution platform Travel Boutique Online (TBO) demonstrated a decent 30.8% Y-O-Y growth during the fiscal year ended March 2024. At the same time, the profits (PAT) of the company spiked with the same pace and surpassed Rs 200 crore in the same period. Travel Boutique’s revenue from operations grew to Rs 1,393 crore in FY24 from Rs 1,065 crore in FY23, its consolidated financial statements accessed from the National Stock Exchange (NSE) show. TBO Tek TBO is a travel distribution platform that extends white-label solutions to travel agents and tour operators. By facilitating air travel, hotel bookings, and tour packages, the platform makes money on commissions on these services. The commission from hotels and packages formed a significant 72.8% of the total operating revenue which increased 40.4% to Rs 1,014 crore during FY24. Commission from air ticketing contributed Rs 347 crore to its operating income. For the B2B travel distribution platform, the cost of providing services for air ticketing, hotels, and packages accounted for 40% of the overall expenditure. This cost grew 41.9% to Rs 471 crore in FY24. Travel Boutique’s spending on employee benefits grew by 21.5% in FY24. The controlled cost mechanism increased Travel Boutique’s profit by 35.8% to Rs 201 crore in FY24 from Rs 148 crore. Its ROCE and EBITDA margins stood at 31% and 19.9% respectively.
