Packaged food companies could shift to more transparency, healthier food options

Organised packaged food companies are facing increased scrutiny over health claims and product formulations following concerns raised by public health advocates and consumers. Nestle's baby food products were recently criticized by a Swiss NGO for high levels of "added sugar." The absence of a definition for "health drinks" has led the FSSAI to direct e-commerce platforms to not classify popular brands such as Bournvita and Horlicks as such. Spices brands Everest and MDH are also facing allegations regarding the presence of ethylene oxide in their products. This heightened scrutiny, combined with consumer demand for healthier options, may lead to a shift toward healthier and more transparent products from packaged food companies.
