Display localization to boost local value addition amid ramp-up in talks

India is aiming to boost display manufacturing and assembly in an effort to increase domestic value addition in its electronics products. Currently, displays account for a significant portion of a product's bill of materials cost, but India has been limited to display assembly rather than full-scale manufacturing and fabrication. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is working with industry stakeholders to encourage the establishment of display fabs, and the government's production-linked incentive schemes are expected to attract global technology partners. However, realizing the benefits of local display manufacturing will take time and require finding the right partners and sales channels.
