Youth unemployment has been a long-standing concern, and the Yuvasree Scheme of West Bengal was introduced to address this issue with structured financial support. Launched in 2013, the scheme aims to assist unemployed job seekers by providing monthly financial aid while they work on improving their employability. Earlier known as Yuva Utsaha Prakalpa, the scheme was later renamed Yuvasree and placed under the implementation of the Directorate of Employment, Department of Labour, Government of West Bengal. The government provides โน1,500 per month to eligible unemployed youth to support job search activities, skill training, and preparation for self-employment ventures. Applicants must be permanent residents of West Bengal, aged 18 to 45 years, and have an educational qualification of Class 8 or above. Another important condition is mandatory registration on the Employment Bank Portal, which serves as the primary database for selecting beneficiaries. The scheme also encourages beneficiaries to enroll in government or private skill development programs. To ensure continued eligibility, beneficiaries must submit an Unemployment Certificate every six months to the concerned authorities.
