Imagine quitting just 4 seconds before winning. I almost did. I've been practicing martial arts for 20 years. So believe me when I say, I've been in fights that make every part of your body question your life choices. This was the finals. I was already beaten up from earlier matches. My body was screaming. My mind preparing to get kicked in the ass. AGAIN. The guy in front of me? He didn't care. I charged at him with all I got. He kicked me... RIGHT IN THE FACE. Lights out. On the floor, I looked at the referee: "End the match. I quit." Referee: "You're 1 point ahead. Only 4 seconds left on the clock." Me: "I DON'T CARE!" Referee: "4 seconds. Just don't get hit." He shouted: "FIGHT" Everything after that was a blur. Just survival. Then suddenly... applause. Standing ovation. Heck, the referee was clapping. I blacked out. Medics carried me away. Next thing I remember? Gold medal around my neck. So whenever life hits me hard, I remind myself: I'm just 4 seconds away from winning.
