The Real Story Behind the Name Silicon Valley In the south of California’s San Francisco bay Area lies a place that changed the way the world uses technology people call it Silicon Valley because many years ago this area became the main spot for making computer chips these chips known as semiconductors are made from a material called silicon. Back in the 1950s and 1960s a wave of engineers, researchers, and small companies started working here helped by nearby Stanford University. They built new technology, shared ideas, and turned the area into a hub for invention over the years it grew far beyond just chip making today Silicon Valley is home to some of the most powerful technology companies in the world, along with thousands of young startups trying to create the next big thing.
