How 3 Friends made the World's Most Used API Testing Tool! So it was 2009, Abhinav was working as a coding intern at Yahoo along with Ankit. Their job was to take APIs and convert them into a shareable format that developers could use in their projects. However, this was a very difficult, painful, and tedious task. Later, Abhinav faced the same issue while running TeliportMe, their first startup. He could think of a solution to these issues but couldn't find a platform offering that solution. Thus, he decided to create a basic working prototype which solved his problems. He then put it on the Chrome Web Store after some changes, and that was an instant hit. Google, the company personally liked it and also featured it on the homepage of the Chrome store. This gave them crazy visibility and soon they onboarded 500k users. Thus, they dropped their existing idea and focused on going all in on Postman, their fun side project. (Classic example of Pivoting) Postman's first funding round was a seed round of $1 million, led by Nexus Venture in 2015. And then, they raised $7 million from Nexus in 2016 and moved their operations to SF in the next year. From then, their journey was quite good. They launched their app version with various more features and continued to gain users as well as raise funds. Finally, in 2021, they raised a Series D investment round of $225 million that valued the company at $5.6 billion. The round was led by Insight Partners and other new and existing investors. Today, they are the most popular API Testing Tool used by 40 million users, 500k companies including Meta, Microsoft, AWS, & Google, and does over $100 million in estimated revenue.
