Before giving anyone equity, ask yourself: Would I want this person as a business partner for 10 years? Because that's what equity means. For employees, you can fire them. For equity partners, you're stuck unless you have rock-solid vesting and buyback clauses. Get a lawyer involved for any equity deals.
