Meet Brian Huang, an 18-year-old who built his own laptop from scratch. And it’s open source. No Dell, no Apple, no Lenovo, just one guy and a crazy idea. Here’s how he did it. Brian wanted a laptop that didn’t exist. A 4K AMOLED screen, a mechanical keyboard, the power to run AI models and Minecraft in 4K, a machine built for performance and customization. The catch? No company was making this. So he thought, “What if I just build one myself?” There was just one problem, he had never built a laptop before. But that didn’t stop him. He sourced parts from China. He reverse-engineered Asus display logs to customize the screen. He designed a custom battery system optimized for power. He CNC-milled an aluminum chassis and built a detachable mechanical keyboard that doubles as a standalone device. The crazy part? It’s all open source. You can literally download the schematics and build your own. A one-person project competing with billion-dollar companies. And it goes to show, sometimes you don’t need permission. If what you want doesn’t exist, build it.
