Indians have a commodity mindset: Often hear the "Indians can't have good things". Our mindset is certainly one that does not inspire confidence. Low quality and short changing is the norm. What you see/hear is never what you get. Be it a product, service or even something as obscure and seemingly minor as a promise of a clean glass of water at a rest stop. We can't build things that last. Be it a road, building or even a company - eventually, it's overrun with typical Indian shortcut jugaad mindset and petty politics. Things then go to crap. When we do build good things, we don't care about them. We can't maintain anything. We can't keep our cities clean. We will clean our own homes religiously but not think twice about tossing garbage onto the street, and then complain that the government/public service does nothing. Collectively, we just accept mediocrity. We don't hold ourselves accountable. We love blaming everybody but ourselves. We are accustomed to living with a shitty quality of life and do nothing as a society to try and improve things as individuals.
