India’s Semiconductor Revolution: From 1% to Industry Leader While the global semiconductor industry stands at $611 billion, India currently holds only ~1%. However, that’s about to change. India has 20% of the global semiconductor design talent and a new $12.1 billion research fund under the Anusandhan National Research Foundation to foster tech innovation. On the manufacturing side, Taiwan leads with TSMC, but India’s setting up more units to bridge this gap. Meanwhile, our assembly sector has turned India into the world’s 2nd largest producer and exporter of mobile phones. Strategic alliances with the US and Singapore are boosting India’s capabilities, and initiatives like the Indian Semiconductor Mission are providing up to 50% cost assistance to manufacturers. With lower labor costs and a strategic location, India’s semiconductor market, valued at $34.4 billion in 2023, is forecasted to hit $100 billion by 2031.
