Before UPI Paytm has its wallet system where if both the people have Paytm wallet they can transfer the money there was no concept of bank account link at that time Almost everybody was using Paytm for payment back then. U can check Paytm get the good valuation before UPI even from China What government saw this thing as a threat where major wealth of nation is handling by only one company which was Paytm And one major mistake they did After launching the UPI Paytm didn't has UPI in it's app for a long time they were operating on wallets just to have the control I guess That why when they adopted it there logo says - "Paytm se UPI" That's how the rise of UPI became fall of Paytm and also they didn't follow the RBI guidelines and all
