It's not about knowing who you are , for companies, your data is specifically your data only , this doesn't change the fact that they knew everything about you. Secondly it's not about showing ads , it's about accessing more than enough data of a users . You never wants that any one ones too much about you , which can be dangerous for you in future. I hope you get my point
