US expands list of Chinese technology companies under export controls

The US Commerce Department has expanded its list of Chinese technology companies subject to export controls, including those that make computer chips, chipmaking tools, and software. The revised rules include 140 companies, primarily based in China but also in Japan, South Korea, and Singapore. This move aims to limit China's access to advanced technologies that pose a risk to US national security. China's Commerce Ministry expressed its displeasure with the decision and vowed to protect its rights and interests. The addition of these companies to the entity list means that US companies will likely be denied export licenses to do business with them. This move is part of Washington's ongoing pressure on Chinese tech companies and its effort to boost the US semiconductor industry. China has accused the US of pursuing technology hegemony and has responded by investing heavily in its own chip manufacturing capabilities.
