University Medical Devices (UMD) has secured $1.6 million in seed funding to further develop its infrastructure and advance the production and marketing of its MicroWash device. The Omaha-based medical device developer aims to provide a less invasive alternative to nasal swabs for COVID-19 and other respiratory infections. The funding round, led by Bright Minds Capital Partners and Invest Nebraska, concluded in December 2023. UMD is working in collaboration with the University of Nebraska Medical Center and its commercialization wings UNeMed/UNeTech.
