Meta Platforms will not introduce its artificial intelligence assistant, Meta AI, in Europe after a request from the Irish privacy regulator. This decision follows complaints and a call for action against Meta by advocacy group NOYB in multiple European countries. The issue revolves around Meta's use of personal data to train its AI models without obtaining consent, even though the company claims to only utilize publicly available and licensed information. The Irish Data Protection Commission has asked Meta to postpone training its language models using content shared by adult users on Facebook and Instagram. Meta expressed disappointment, stating that this request hinders innovation and competition in AI development in Europe. Therefore, Meta AI will not be launched in Europe for now.

The Danish privacy regulator, Datatilsynet, has ruled that cities in Denmark must ensure greater privacy assurances when using Google services that may expose children's data. The regulator found that Google uses student data from Chromebooks and Google Workplace for Education for its own purposes, which contravenes European privacy laws. Municipalities have until March 1st to explain how they will comply with the order and will no longer be able to transfer data to Google starting August 1st. This could result in the phasing out of Chromebooks. The regulator also stated that municipalities cannot send data to Google unless there are legal changes or Google provides a way to filter students' information. Google has been working with Danish municipalities to address the privacy concerns since July 2022.
