The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is reportedly asking technology and telecom companies about their handling of the SolarWinds cyber attack in 2020. The SEC is seeking internal communications from these companies to assess the impact of the attack and identify any gaps in corporate security. The SolarWinds hack, identified in December 2020, granted hackers access to numerous companies and government offices that used SolarWinds' products. The SEC previously sued SolarWinds and its top information security executive, alleging that they hid cybersecurity weaknesses during the attack.
